'Shaman's Wisdom' by Tony Samara

After living for several years in a Zen Buddhist monastery, Tony Samara ventured to the jungles of South America - to the Amazon and to the Andes - where he lived and studied among a community of Shamans.

Tony Samara is now visited by people from all parts of the world and from all walks of life, seeking spiritual guidance or simply the experience of being in his presence.

His public appearances, workshops and retreats take him throughout Europe, Costa Rica and the Caribbean.

Tony is not seeking for people to become shamans (or anything else other than what we are) or to go back to a more ancient form of living but rather to embrace the modern world using aspects which he believes to be easily practiced and integrated into modern everyday living making each one of us a part of the healing that is required for humanity to survive.

‘’The way to experience joy is unique to each individual, yet the core of joy is a shared experience that makes us human and part of an alive participating adventure. ‘’
(Tony Samara - March 2008)

How to Reach what is called Enlightenment?

Posted on Feb 14th, 2009 by Tony Samara : Spiritual Teacher and Author Tony Samara
How to reach what is called Enlightenment?

"We cannot DO anything to reach that which we call enlightenment.  There are many people at this time who are deeply seeking in a conscious way the deeper aspects of the journey that we all have to undertake. A journey that is more conscious of our actions and purpose here in life.

We are all seekers even if we dont realise this and I believe that out of this seeking there are people that because of their practice and understanding of their journey are well suited to make it easier for others to understand the traps and distractions that often overwhelm us so as to forget our focus and remain attached to the practicalities of every day life.

One of the things that our culture clouds is that the within is often a reflection of the outside and so going within is just as much a distraction as going out and trying to obtain answers from a person outside or a place. My teaching is not inside or outside but rather being in this present moment. Being real to what is going on as your experience. Otherwise the journey becomes very crazy.

As we go within we find all sorts of aspects of ourselves that are helpful but in the end do not answer the depth of the questions that the heart needs to realise and sometimes even become a kind of preoccupation with oneself.

It is the same with reading books or moving to different places. Knowledge is not in those places or in the books but rather in your understanding. Listening to teachers, going to conferences, seminars or events is what many people do and it is interesting to do this but in the end unless you understand then it is information without meaning. This is where a true teacher whether the teacher uses many words or a few words is able to bring deeper clarity to this information so that the information touches your heart rather than the intellect or other parts of yourself. The heart is the gateway to what it means to be in this present moment. I am not speaking about an emotional aspect of yourself but rather the part that knows. The part that is the deeper essence of who you are.

I do believe that working with a teacher is an essential tool that is frowned upon in the west due to the individualism that we over-value.

We are all one and there is nothing that is separate from this oneness except the intellect that likes to create boxes for us to fit in so that we can understand the world and have some sort of dominion over it. The heart understands that true understanding comes from union rather than differences or dominion.

What we are meant to give up is not our essence but rather what prevents this essence from blossoming.

The source is within this knowledge.

I believe that what we seek can only be found once the heart opens to the mystical truth that is contained in opening our hearts to the deepest love that is our essence rather than what the mind projects as reality.

Love

Choose Joy !

“In every moment we each have the ability to choose anything from the abundance of possibilities that exist - seen or unseen. Joy is a state of mind reachable by all human beings but only understood when worry does not colour the natural inclination of what it means to be human.” Tony Samara – December 2008

The Gift of Awareness this Christmas

Posted on Nov 19th, 2008 by Tony Samara : Spiritual Teacher and Author Tony Samara
“In today's world of materialism and consumerism we often forget the energy behind the products that we buy in the places where we shop. Advertising, social pressures and the sense of separation that industrial mass-production creates encourages people to forget that the most important part of the gift or an object is its feeling and sense of beauty. Cheapness and the negative energy that is associated with the pain and suffering that is part of the sweat shops and unethical mass-producing factories cycle often create the sense of materialism where true value is distorted.

I have spoken about the financial crisis prior to it eventuating as it has in the last few months due to the unsustainability of the monetary system. Now we face another interesting challenge whereby I believe countries such as China that epitomise this mass-industrial culture will start to create products that will carry with them serious health and well-being threats.

We have seen the beginnings of this Chinese problem with its lead-based paints in toys, food such as chocolates and milks manufactured there carrying cancer-causing heavy metals and various Chinese herbal remedies that have unacceptable levels of pesticides. This is only the beginning. I feel in the next year or two that a lot of items that we don't even realise are made in China will not only carry the negative energy that is part of this hideous production system but rather will actually be a genuine threat to our health and well-being.

Now that Christmas shopping pressures are mounting be aware when you buy something for yourself or a loved one to take into consideration how it was produced and where it was made.

I encourage you to purchase products from ethical companies that have a genuine interest in its workers and the people buying the products and in creating a new paradigm whereby what is being created is not a cheap throw-away product but rather something that can be deeply appreciated and carry with it the beauty of giving.”

Tony Samara – November 2008
